Ishbel is a small (or large) lace project that took me exactly 2 weeks to make. It was my train project for the last 2 weeks, which meant that I only worked on it on the train (or at SnB Monday night) and finished the last row at home this last Friday night. Although the pattern instructs you to make it as a stockinette stitch lace pattern, I did it all in garter stitch, even the lace part. It was quite enjoyable to make this way! I thought that a garter stitch made more sense for this wild and crazy yarn.
The yarn is Araucania Ranco Multy, fingering weight. I really like the idea of making lace with fingering weight yarn. This is something I really want to explore more. I also want to explore some Fair Isle or Scandinavian patterns using fingering weight yarn. I have made a Norwegian traditional sweater, which I love, but it is just too warm to wear most of the time.
That’s really the only yarn I want to buy now as stash enhancement – some really beautiful fingering weight. I have enough sock yarn for socks. I want some for garments!
My NEXT train project has already been cast on, but only the first 2 rows have been knit. (I wrote about it in my post from yesterday – no photos yet.) I’m having to be very disciplined these days. I HAVE to spend my home knitting time on Muir and nothing else if I have any hope of getting it done.
I do have another FO to talk about, but I don’t want to post a photo now. The bolero! For my niece’s wedding! It’s DONE! I finished it this afternoon and I’m really happy with it. I love the silk fabric. It’s just stiff enough to hold the bolero and ruffle shapes, and just shimmery enough to be special, but not bling-bling. I made it in 2 afternoons of sewing. Not bad I think. And quite a relief to finish!!!
Tomorrow night is Stitch n Bitch at de Jaren and I will wear this just finished Ishbel. I have to play with it a bit to see just HOW best to wear it. It’s kind of that in between size – not quite a shawl and just too big to be a little scarf. We’ll see. If anyone takes my photo wearing it, I’ll post it here.
I’m starting to get ready for next weekend in London. Are you going to iKnit London? I am and I’m getting pretty excited about it. I’ll post more about it later this week. I’ve been busy getting my hand knits ready to wear there. You can’t be seen at a knitting convention wearing store bought knitwear! Ha!
Well, gotta go now. I have a few more rows of Muir to finish still tonight….
