Signs of Spring

FINALLY Spring is on the way.  It’s always such a long dark winter here and when the days finally get longer and trees and flowers start to show signs of life, I sigh a huge sigh of relief.  EINDELIJK.

Saturday we got up early and went to a nearby garden center and bought plants and dirt.  Strawberries, tomato plants, flowers and mint.  Oh my!  This morning we planted all but the tomatoes and mint.  We also spent time clearing out junk from the winter weather and threw out dead plants.  That’s just the start of course.

The tree above has been our Christmas tree two years in a row.  He needed a new home so we planted him in a bigger pot.  There are still rose bushes to plant and a home to find for some irises.   It will be great when it’s done.

Spring is also associated with new ducklings and our house is no exception.  We only have duckling FEET though.

There are the cutest damn things I’ve seen in a long time.  It might not look like much yet, but when finished they will look like these:

Who can resist baby socks in the form of duck feet?  I couldn’t.  The design is ingenious and challenging.  I wonder how many prototypes she made before coming up with the final design?  You can find the pattern HERE on knitty.com.  I wrote a few weeks ago that suddenly there are a lot of babies arriving in our circle of friends.  I started on a baby sweater and just couldn’t get excited about it.  I decided that life is too short to force yourself, in your free time, to do things you just don’t enjoy doing.  So I frogged it and went on to something else.  Then I saw these socks.  They are just too cute to pass up and thankfully they are really interesting to make too.

I’m so happy to see the sun these days.  I love Spring.

Oh one other piece of good news….. I have the green light to start running again!  YIPPEE!  I have to start really slowly and gently, but at least I can start.  What good news!  I’m missing all the Spring races, but who knows.  Maybe I can make the 5km Letterenloop in June.
